When left to its own devices, old age becomes a physical souvenir of a life lived, ravaging the body like sea on a cliff edge and moulding it into a testament of existence and survival. For some reason, it often isn’t celebrated, instead it is seen as something to be muted and hidden from view. Youth is pushed front and centre, especially on screen. In defiance of this Age Appropriate shows the beauty to be found in aging, viewing it as an incline, rather than a decline. With humour and love, Nina Holmgren turns the lens on her grandfather, using his vibrancy and style as a case study for the alluring aesthetic of aging.
