What Is Beauty?
Director : Anna Ginsburg
Arses, hips, waists, bellies, bones and boobs. With each generation comes a renewed fetisisation of the female form, and an evolution in the ideals and standards to which women are held. This animated short flows fast through positions and poses, looking not only at the gaze under which we are scrutinised, but also at the gaze we cast on ourselves, each punishing in their demand for perfection. It proves that when the blueprint for beauty continues to be redrawn, striving to achieve an unstable ideal is impossible and so we’re constantly set up to fail. It’s a powerful reminder, a rallying cry and a clear vision for a perspective change, one that should be held onto as we continue to be bombarded with “perfect”.
